The Sierra Club is an environmentalist group that encourages the conservation of natural resources and preservation of the environment. It is particularly interested in issues concerning the wilderness, clean air, population, energy conservation, forestry, land use, and coastal area preservation. The organization works to influence public policy through state legislatures and Congress, the courts, and election campaigns. It also sponsors wilderness trips, films, and conferences on environmental topics. The Sierra Club publishes books on outdoor activities and the environment as well as a bimonthly magazine called Sierra.
